I think this is a very good forum for people interested in Machine Learning and Computer Science in general to discuss ideas and help each other solve related problems. However, it seems to have low activity. I think the site owner could promote this forum more and consider expanding it to cover computer science and programming, similar to Stack Overflow, which also seems to be less active than it used to be.
 
I appreciate the honest take. Activity ebbs and flows here and you're right it's quieter than I'd like some months. Promoting it more is definitely on me to work on. Widening the scope to general CS and programming is an interesting idea though I'd want to be careful it doesn't dilute the ML focus that brought people here in the first place. What kind of programming topics were you thinking would fit alongside the ML stuff?

I think we need to expand the scope first, I understand it will be diluted but we need a certain number of active users before thinking about that problem. It would also help to attract computer science students and normal coders or programmers, since many of them already have basic understanding of machine learning.
 
You're correct about needing a critical mass of active users before worrying about dilution.
CS students and general programmers would bring a lot of overlap since so much of that crowd already touches ML in some form. I'm just wary of going too broad too fast since a flood of generic programming talk could bury the ML discussions that are here now. Maybe a middle ground works better where we open up a space for adjacent programming and data topics but keep it clearly separate from the core ML sections so both crowds have their own home. Curious what specific programming topics you'd want to see first if we went that route.

I also wonder how many students would join a forum these days, unless we are giving away homework answers :p
